Menorca Biosfera Reserve

Minorca is located at the eastern end of the Balearic Islands and is the most easterly of all Spanish regions; therefore it is the first part of Spain to see the sunrise. It has a maximum length of 48 km (nearly 30 miles) from Ciutadella (west) to Maó (East). It has 220 km of coastline, with more than 50 beaches, of which two thirds are unspoilt. It is the ideal destination for families who want to relax by combining cultural visits with natural scenery and beaches that would grace the Caribbean. The romantic quality of Minorca is also surprising, with such a variety of idyllic places.

Minorca contains the best-preserved natural areas in the Mediterranean, and was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO on October 8, 1993. In its 702 square km, we find a natural park S’Albufera d’Es Grau (wetland), five nature reserves, a marine reserve along the north coast and 19 ANEI areas (natural areas of special interest)

The island is a natural paradise shaped by a multitude of ravines, caves, underwater caverns and unique plant and animal species.
